The Shippon Coombe Head Farm

Welcome to The Shippon

Self-catering in Devon for up to 4 people in a converted granite barn. The Shippon is located on the northern edge of Devon's Dartmoor National Park, just outside the market town of Okehampton.

From our doorstep you have immediate access to the spectacular surrounding countryside.

If you enjoy wildlife, here's an example from our Wealth Of Wildlife folder, prepared for us by the Dartmoor National Park's ecologist, about Coombe Head Farm: A spring arises just below the farmhouse and gives rise to a stream. Buzzing with dragonflies and damselflies in the summer months and home to moss-covered willows, these wetland areas are valuable wildlife habitats. Towards the bottom of the valley is a woodland area which has carpets of bluebells in May and some areas are boggy and have plants such as Marsh Pennywort and Lady's Smock. Traditional Devon hedgebanks can be seen here and they are alive with 40+ types of wild flowers such as Violets, Knapweed, Self-heal, Tormentil and Pignut. These plants indicate that the fields have not been agriculturally 'improved' so have retained their species richness. Soay sheep help to keep the grassland in good condition.

The Shippon is newly available from Spring 2012 for short breaks (minimum 2 nights) or longer stays. Please check our 'Availability' page.
